The polls are closed, the votes have been tallied, and the 2009 Roland Synthesizer Contest Winners have been decided.

The 2009 Roland Synth Contest Winners are:

Grand Prize Winner - Eric Savard, Pontiac, PQ - Roland V-Synth GT Version 2.0

2nd Place - Les Limaces, Montreal, PQ - Roland JUNO-Stage Keyboard

3rd place - Justin O'Sullivan, Ottawa, ON - Cakewalk Rapture and Cakewalk SONAR Producer 8.5 Software

As a child, Eric used to sit and play the organ for hours and hours.  At the age of 12, he began formal music lessons on both the organ and saxophone.  It was at this time that he first became interested in writing his own music. While pursuing his degree, Eric found time to combine work and play by creating the theme song for a summer camp where he was employed.

After taking a break from music to focus on other interests, Eric renewed his passion for songwriting with a new style and determination.  Eric’s winning composition for the 2009 Roland Synth Contest, “A Night of Rhythm,” was composed using SONAR 6 LE and Dimension LE software, an Edirol UA-25EX and a Roland JX-3P Synthesizer.

Les Limaces joins the musical creativity of artists Benoit Carreau and Alexandre Caron.  Both Benoit and Alexandre have been involved in the Montreal music scene for a number of years. Benoit first started on the piano, moved on to the drums, then added the guitar and bass to his instrumental repertoire.  Alexandre started deejaying in 2000 and continues to deejay in venues around Montreal. 

Although the pair first met in 2002, it was not until 2008 that they finally had a chance to jam together, and from there Les Limaces was born. The ‘Les Limaces’ sound is groovy and melodic at the same time, using big bouncy bass and psycho pads blended together to create dance-floor oriented tracks while writing a new story every time.  

Justin O’Sullivan, also known as “Good Luck, Georgie,” is a musician and producer from Ottawa, ON who considers his style of composing to be a dark new breed of electronic music. “Good Luck, Georgie” is one of Justin's various musical projects where he explores the different possibilities in music. Justin plans to study Professional Audio Production and Music Business at the Metalworks Institute of Sound and Music Production in 2010. While only having produced three compositions to date, Justin is excited to grow his musical talent and progress his career within today’s music industry.

Dès sa plus tendre enfance, Éric s’amuse à jouer de l’orgue des heures durant. À 12 ans, il commence à suivre officiellement des cours d’orgue et de saxophone. C’est à cette époque qu’il se découvre un intérêt certain à composer sa propre musique. Tout en poursuivant ses études, Éric trouve le temps de combiner la musique et le travail en créant le thème du camp d’été où il travaille.

Après s’être éloigné de la musique pour se consacrer à d’autres centres d’intérêt, Éric renoue avec sa passion pour la musique et la composition et se trouve un nouveau style, animé d’une détermination accrue. La pièce gagnante d'Éric au concours Synthétiseur Roland 2009 a été composée à l’aide d’un ordinateur portatif, du Edirol UA-25EX avec logiciel SONAR 6 LE et d’un clavier Roland JX-3P.

Le groupe Les Limaces réunit la créativité musicale des artistes Benoît Carreau et Alexandre Caron. Benoît et Alexandre animent tous deux la scène musicale de Montréal depuis plusieurs années. Benoît a commencé son apprentissage musical avec le piano avant d’ajouter à son répertoire instrumental la batterie, la guitare et la basse. Alexandre a débuté sa carrière de disc-jockey en 2000 et la poursuit dans divers lieux de représentation de Montréal et de ses environs.

Bien qu’ils se soient tous deux rencontrés en 2002, ce n’est qu’en 2008 qu’ils ont enfin la chance d’improviser ensemble des pièces musicales. C’est alors que le groupe Les Limaces voit le jour. Les Limaces produisent un son à la fois groovy et mélodique grâce à un mélange psychoacoustique de sonorités riches et dynamiques de basse et de pads pour créer des bandes sonores destinées aux piste de danse tout en composant une nouvelle histoire chaque fois.

Justin O’Sullivan, aussi connu sous le nom de « Good Luck, Georgie », est un musicien et producteur d’Ottawa en Ontario qui décrit le style de ses compositions comme une nouvelle race obscure de musique électronique. « Good Luck, Georgie » est l’un des nombreux projets musicaux de Justin dans lequel il explore les différentes possibilités offertes par la musique. En 2010 Justin envisage d’étudier la production sonore professionnelle et le monde de l’industrie musicale au Metalworks Institute of Sound and Music Production. Bien qu’à ce jour il n’ait produit que trois compositions, Justin est enthousiaste à l’idée de développer ses talents musicaux et de progresser professionnellement dans l’industrie musicale d’aujourd’hui.
